Steering wheel spins on shaft
My fuel pump went out, so we were pushing my car today. I went to turn the wheels and it steering wheel turned but the wheels did not. It is not completely loose, and you can turn the wheels with it when the power steering pump is engaged. What causes this and how do I fix it? I do have a GT Grant wheel on there, but it has been on there for a couple years now with no issues. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Wow, Thats scary. Plull the wheel sounds like the steering wheel hub adapter splines are stripped or the wrong adapter was used on installation.

you have no issues at all when the motor is running? take a look to see if the steering shaft (close to the gearbox) is turning when u turn the wheel..and follow it through to see if it turns the pitman arm

so possible replacing the wheel or the install kit could correct the issue?

Re: Steering wheel spins on shaft
its possible it is the splines that stripped..but an easier thing to check at the moment would be to turn the steering wheel and see what happens to the shaft at the gear box as u do...
