V6 Shocks and Struts

It may be a while before I would be able to replace them, but in the 21 years I've owned my Camaro I think I replaced my rear shocks once and never the front and I have 169k miles, so I'm sure I'm due for them. Since V6's are a little lighter and the think that I like the most with my Camaro is cornering, anyone have any recommendations for replacements? If I had a choice and had the funds I probably would to an air ride suspension or something like that.
Thanks

Re: V6 Shocks and Struts

What type of replacements do you want? OEM? Performance? What's your budget look like?

You could go with Koni Yellows, but all 4 will run you somewhere around $900, or you could go with KYB AGX which are good as well and should run you somewhere around $500 for all 4.

I think Air Ride Technologies makes a kit for 82-92 F-Body for $1,800.

Re: V6 Shocks and Struts

I would love the air ride and that isn't too bad, but now isn't in the budget, for now I'm going to try and keep the total budget for getting the car back on the road down to $1000-$1500. The 2 issues that are first are the fuel pump ($100) and to rebuild the trans($200), and then once I see if I can get the engine running (it's been sitting for 9 years) I can move on from there. Also I need to replace the bushings, before I parked it I was getting some knocks from crushed bushings ($150?). But for now I just want to see if I just do stock, or mild upgrade, or if I just wait and go all out later. I prefer performance but since it will just be a street car and not high HP it isn't the top of the list. How much of improvement would the KYB AGX be over stock, is it worth the extra $ or is it just minor improvement?

Thanks again

Anything is a massive improvement, unless you've got Lakewood 90/10s with a soft as hell spring like I do then it sucks lol.

AGXs are a good lower cost alternative to Koni Yellows. I've been eying the Ground Control weight jack and Koni Yellow setup for some time now. But that's $1500 lol.

If cornering is your cup of tea and i doubt you do much drag racing with a v6, Konis are a excellent choice. AGX are good, my friend runs them in his z28. he likes how they adjust well for drag racing and perform well on the street. I doubt Konis would be good drag shocks. The lower weight of your v6 will matter more in spring rates than struts.
Konis are only about $650 at tire rack. Unless you use 4thgen rear shocks, they are another $50 each.

I don't know enough about air ride to speak on it. Also, you don't need high hp for autoX and some road racing. I should know, I only have a 305tbi.

When I bought my kyb agxs I think I paid less than $300 for all 4 on tirerack.com a number of years ago. I also picked up solid strut mounts from them as well and I am pretty happy with them. My car is a DD so its nothing extreme but the kybs do just fine for me.

It all depends what you want to do with the car but Konis and KYBs are both good choices for a v6 car.

Re: V6 Shocks and Struts

Do they still offer different shocks / struts for the V6 or just a one-size-fits-all deal now?
