Spindle specs

Does anyone know how much torque goes on the 2 nuts that connect the spindle to the shock? also, how much torque is needed for the spindle nut?

I had the same question when I did mine. Did a search and found MANY threads listing it. I read several threads to make sure I got the same answer several times. Its up around 190-200 ft/lbs. Since my torque wrench doesn't go that high I used grease on the threads (reduce torque 30%, i think) and torqued them around 150 (i think) its been a couple years.

Either way, (please search, my info is not good enough for something that important. You want to be sure) and you will find the torque and probably the info about cheating torque with grease.

the spindle nut does not have a torque setting. you tighten them by feel. spin the rotor and tighten the nut real snug but don't ever crank on it. when you can't turn the rotor, loosen the nut. this is to set the bearings. If they are brand new bearings, you'll want to do this several times and again in a couple hundred miles.

To finish the job, snug the nut to where the rotor turns well, doesn't have any play or wobble, but not tight enough to impair the rotors turning. If the cotter pin holes don't line up, tighten till it does. Clear as mud?

Good luck!

It depends upon the year of the vehicle. By '92 the bolts are one time use torque to yield. In this case it is:

125 ft/lb
Followed by a 120* turn
Final torque must exceed 148 ft/lb

For the spindle/hub retaining nuts, I use a dial indicator and shoot for 0.0015 to 0.002" end play (1.5 to 2 thou). GM spec is 1 to 5 thou.
