Spindle steering arm adapter??

The below picture was from another thread that I came across during my wonderful rack and pinion excursion like many of you have gone down. My question: has anyone seen or familiar with this adapter that attaches to the spindle steering arm to move the mount point? I have an idea and wondering if this is a stock part or specially made etc...

Thanks for the help!

Never seen that but Ive made similar parts and so have member Pablo, mainly to correct Ackerman and quickening the steering is a by product in my case.

Re: Spindle steering arm adapter??

Would it be safe to say then a machined part like that would allow for a pinto rack and pinion install to be done without buying altered spindles. This adapter would install and move the connection point "back and in" for a front mount rack and pinion... much like what aftermarket spindles do?

This would allow for use of stock disc brake setups for us drag racers as well. (Aftermarket spindles require an aftermarket disc brake system)

Got any extras laying around for a mock up?

Problem is you would need to move the tie rod back and outboard, not in board like pictured.
You would be increasing the anti-ackerman and making the steering geometry far worse than stock. There are pics of my prototypes in another thread somewhere in fab I believe.

Re: Spindle steering arm adapter??

So if I used the adapter and messed up the Ackerman would this be relavent in a drag car situation? All im after is to be able to steer in the pits and at the end of the track with a manual rack and pinion. I'm having difficulty seeing why this couldn't work.

Thanks for the insight on all of this as I've never tackled anything quite like this.

That is a Guldstrand Bumpsteer kit made for the C3 corvettes. Those Vettes have a dual outer tierod mount position from the factory for increased steer ratio. That picture is not a 3rd gen.

Re: Spindle steering arm adapter??

If you want to improve Ackerman I would start buy building your own Tierods with thin chromoly links and rod ends and simply start by drilling the drag link and spindles to accept bolts without taper. Then you go about by spacing the inner tie rods (rod ends) off the drag link with bump steer shims (bought at any race car shop like Coleman, StockCarProducts, HRProduct, etc) and increasing the achrh swing of the drag link. Careful not to make contact with the K.member or other suspension parts when experimenting.
