Front Wheel Bearings

Anyone have recommendations for front wheel bearings in an '88 IROC? I've got one side beginning to fail---and over the past several years, I've found some pretty atrocious stuff being sold that doesn't seem to hold up.

You can get Timken at AZ. Pretty dependable as such things go.

Set 6 and Set 34. (or A-6 and A-34, can't recall which numbering system Tinken uses) Plus of course the grease seal, can't recall the # off the top of my head.

Yep Timken.

Rockauto had them at real good prices when I bought mine.

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

The last set of outer timkins I bought had a plastic cage. I wasn't too keen about that but they seem to be holding up fine.

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

I use SKF or *** (pardon the expression) for my bearing needs. If any of these aren't available, Timken or National bearings will do.

Hand pack them until the grease squirts out the opposite side. Put some grease in the hub as well. Dang, I miss hand packing wheel bearings....

Re: Front Wheel Bearings

Summit part numbers where I got mine.
TMK-8871 SEAL $2.97 each
TMK-SET34 SET $10.97 2 $21.94
TMK-SET6 SET $8.97 2 $17.94

Nice rotors if you need them. Of course there are cheaper ones.
SUM-BR-62013L DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTOR
SUM-BR-62013R DRILLED AND SLOTTED ROTOR

Get one of these and packing is easy.
