Mixing strut/shock brands?

Is it bad to mix brands front to back for struts/shocks? From what I've seen its not ideal but I don't understand why. I'm asking b/c I can get rear B6 HDs for $88 each. The rear KYBs are almost the same price as the Bilstein HDs so wouldn't it make sense to get those instead?

KYB the same price as Bilstiens???? You better shop around more, those KYB prices are way too high where your shopping. Or if the Bilstiens are THAT that they are KYB prices, better make sure it's not just a Bilstien sticker....

None of the rear shocks are terribly expensive, you can usually find monotube koni yellows for under 100$. The fronts are the expensive ones

The problem you are referring to is probably when a person has four non-adjustable pieces with the fronts that are valved at one setting and rears that are valved at a different setting. An experienced driver may be able to tell the difference. I could if it were drag shock vs autocross shock but not KYB vs Billstein in a similar valving. Like tires you want to have the same brand and line. If your current pieces are not blown then replace them 2 at a time. I run the yellow Koni's 3 way adjustable up front and the Billsteins yellow in back and have the front set where I believe it is close to the rears.

Re: Mixing strut/shock brands?

Buddy, the B6s are for a 93-02 which makes them cost less for whatever reason and the KYB AGX is about $80. So less than 20 bucks for a better brand.

86 TA, where have you seen rear konis for under $100? Lowest I've seen is $116.

Tibo, good info.

TEDSgrad there's a little more to it than that haha.
