I've cut my OE bump stops off and thinking of where I can relocate some. I am thinking about installing some truck bump stops inside of the rear coil springs. I've tried using the Google search and didn't find anything like this, but someone has had to have tried this already. If I find a way to center it in the opening of the axle spring seat, and get it to the right height, would this work?
Something like this Dorman 523-049
You would have to add material to the top perch to make co tact with the new bump stop. This might make installing and removing the spring a nightmare.
I added a stock style bump stop to the Inside rail of the spring pocket, same idea as the stock mount, just flipped inboard. This way it's the same height it was before and still uses the axle tube as its contact point.
Did you relocate your hard brake lines? I had originally thought about taking what I had cut out and moving that into the inner spot, but when I put it up there to see how it would fit I noticed that if it ever contacts the axle tube it would crush my brake pipes.
Also, why would I need to add more material at the top? Are you thinking that it needs more to reduce the travel or to increase the strength?
I have a friend that operates a mobile welding company and is getting into CNC plasma cutting. I think he can fabricate something that will mount the bump stop high enough to properly limit axle travel.
You would need to add material so it contacts at the right time. Chances are the bumpstop is not tall enough.
I made new brake lines, but you can move them out of the way easy enough most times.

I think if I assemble a pipe with a collar on it to sit on top of the bottom spring locator, then bolt the bump stop to it and have something in the bottom of that pipe to put a bolt through. Then I think I could set it to the right height, weld the collar into place, then assembly would just be placing the bump stop and pipe inside the spring, position it and fasten the assembly to the axle.
However, I did search many of your threads looking, did you ever post photos of how you relocated yours?
