Steering Box Question

I put a reman Cardone steering box in my 83, and after 3000 miles it has a lot of input shaft slop. I tried tightening the set screw on top but it didn't seem to make much difference. It's not the steering links, all brand new and still tight. Is it worth trying to rebuild this box or get a new Lares steering box?

Re: Steering Box Question

Dont bother. There's threads on here about other (better) builders/sellers. Lee power steering is one, but there are others like you mentioned.

Re: Steering Box Question

I bought a Borgeson steering box, rather than wait for a rebuild on the box I have. Same ratio as what I have, should be installed by the end of the week.

Re: Steering Box Question

I bought the Borgeson Steering box also and the steering is smooth as silk. Only concerns that had to be addressed is the Borgeson unit has the 4 mounting bolt holes whereas the OEM unit has 3 and the position of the steering shaft where it goes into the input splines of the Borgeson unit are 2 mm further away from the chassis so there is interference where the steering shaft contacts the header tube and that is using the SLP headers on the L98 engine. After machining the steering shaft, slightly, its a perfect fit.
