Koni 8741 1030Sport Sport Shock Absorber, Do these come in red?
If so what's the difference?

 

There was a koni red, long discontinued. The yellow was the far superior piece, don't settle for less.

FWIW I have a set of yellows for sale in NJ and a pile of other front end performance goodies.

Are the yellows front or rear? If they're front, and he doesn't jump on them, I'd be interested in them. Just curious, what other "goodies" might you have?

 

I only have the front koni sports.
I have J&M hotpart strut mounts, ground control front weight jacks, 1st style UMI lower control arms, complete c5 z06 front brake swap and spindles, adjustable wonder bar, AGR quick ratio steering box, probably more

 

I think the red had damping more appropriate for soft stock springs. It would be a harsh ride if used with stiffer lowering springs.

And yellow have damping more appropriate for higher spring rates, and maybe larger range of motion (for lowered cars).

 

Koni yellow shocks & struts have adjustable damping. They also have a cheaper product line which are orange, but currently don't have struts available for the front in orange. They have the rear shocks available with off the car adjustment or on the car adjustment. Currently we have struts and both shocks in stock. We sell them as a complete set (2 shocks and 2 struts) or individually. Link to the complete set below:

Same color? Same damping curve?

 

Currently all Koni products (Sport product line) available for 3rd gens are yellow (both of the shocks and struts). They have a cheaper product line called the STR.R and they have rear shocks that will fit a 3rd gen but not struts, those are orange. Both of the rear shocks (on car adjustable and off car adjustable) have the same damping curve, identical other than how they adjust. The off the car shocks are cheaper by quite a bit - over $50 cheaper per shock. Below is the all 3 available separately, both shocks and the struts:

Was there ever a "Red" product line, or is it people just misspeaking about the Orange?

I'm looking at old pictures of my red rear shocks and by golly they're not really red, but they're not bright orange either, just kind of a blend in between.

 

They used to have a "classic" product line, they were red and had an older Koni logo on them. Haven't seen them available in 3-4 years or more now. They we're a product line that was more of a stock replacement over a performance shock/strut. They were not adjustable. I think the Orange (STR.R) replaced them but with more of a performance valving. Not sure why they don't make a 3rd gen compatible strut in the STR.R line.

 

Aren't the on car adjustable shocks for 4th gen f-bodies, and off car are 3rd gen? I read somewhere one is monotube and the other is twin tube. Cant remember which is which though.

The "3rd gen" rear koni yellow are off car adjustable, need to be compressed to adjust. These are monotube. The "4th gen" ones are in can adjustable, just like the front Koni sports, and are twin tube

 

The on the car adjustable shocks are a newer product and more expensive. The off the car adjustable shocks are monotube and the on the car shocks are twin tube, but look identical and Koni gives them the same selling description "No matter which type of shock absorber application your vehicle uses, the general principle of each is to convert kinetic energy (movement) into thermic energy (heat)." The on the car adjustable shocks are listed as a 4th gen part number, but 3rd and 4th gens have the exact same rear shock mounting set up. They work great on 3rd gens, so no idea why Koni lists them as a 4th gen only part.

Koni red front struts were on car adjustable,and rear shocks were of car adjustable(three different settings,press and turn).Rear shocks were much softer than Koni yellows.

 

if I recall, yellow front can be adjusted on car, yellow back, must remove lower bolt to adjust. I ended up putting mine on the softest setting. felt like that was closest to factory. other settings were too stiff, lumber wagon stiff.
