brake caliper questions, WHICH ONES?/

ok, so i went to autozone today to check the prices of 89 calipers and rotors and stuff. and this is what they told me

89 calipers are $70 plus a $70 core charge
BUT i can get $80 BACK for the 88's on my car right now.. weird that the 88 core is more then the 89 which are better.....

i checked the autozone website, and there are freaking all types of calipers available....

WHAT is the difference between HEAVY DUTY and NON HEAVY DUTY brakes??? I think that Heavy Duty would be 1LE?????

and why are the brakes SO EXPENSIVE?? i just got some front calipers because my fronts suck, and they were only 11.99+10.99 core..... HOW can the fronts be SO much cheaper???

Yes the '88 and older calipers are more expensive in price and core charges.Probably cause there is so few to go around,my guess anyway, but they are not worth it.The '89 and up are far superior to the '88 and older system,I just did the upgrade on the front and rear of my car(to 1LE),beleive me it is worth it.As far as our third gens go,Heavy Duty refers to the 1LE system,as does Performance Package,I have seen both descriptions depending on which parts store I was in.Front calpiers are usually cheaper than backs because they do not have an internal parking brake mechanism like the rears do.As to why brakes are so expensive in general,I have no idea, but hey...we spend a fortune on every other aspect of our cars to go fast, why not spend some more on what keeps us alive, the brakes,I have no complaints about the prices,I wanna stop after a nice quarter run on some back road.
