weird thumping sound...

i am hearing a thumping sound at low speeds and when decelerating, and i am also feeling a slight thump in the steering wheel and floor, but its mostly audible. i thought at first that it was coming from the back tires. so i brought my car to discount tire, and they pulled the two rear tires and checked them out and reballanced them and checked to make sure the belt wasn't seperating. they were fine, and they still thump.

im starting to think that it might be coming from the front tires, they said the tire wear on the front tires was really bad, and the alignment is bad.

the thumping sound kinda reminds me of when i had a wheel bearing go out on my old Integra (Front wheel drive). so could it maybe be a wheel bearing going out on my car? front or rear? or possibly a problem with the rear end? gears etc.??

also, would loose ball joints do this ?

it could be as symple as a torque arm mount or a tranny mount. You might also take all the load off the suspention and check that the shock bushings arn't bad.

I have the same problem.
Got in my car to go to wk & shifting from 1st to 2nd I thought the thing was going to fall off (or come through the floorboard). Turns out the bolt for the Torque Arm was GONE, as in not there anymore. So got that fixxed, but didn't know the bushings (insulators) were shot (since I don't do any of the machanical work, thats what boyfriends\husbands are for ). Now it just makes a thump. If I don't shift too hard, don't hear it at all.
