Changing Rear Disk Pads
Changing Rear Disk Pads
Can anyone who's changed the pads on a rear disk third-gen, specifically an '87, tell me what the trick is to releasing tension on the equalizer in the trans trunnel? The manual says this needs to be done even if the parking brake is down. I can get a wrench on the nut, but can't turn it due to the DS and tunnel wall. Please tell me there is a way to do this without pulling the DS or Torque Arm.
Any other tips would be appreciated too. This is my first time changing rear disks and I know the old style is a PITA.
Thanks,

Hey,
Its easier to apply tension on the arm on the caliper where the cable mounts, and yank the cable out, then loosen the cable adjustment in the tunnel. A wrench on the nut, and a pare of plyers on the bracket to keep it from spinning is ideal.

If you take the DS out its MUCH easier. The torque arm can stay put. Mark with a pen the orientation of the DS in relation to the pinion before you take it out (4 10mm bolts i believe). I then use vise grips and an open ended spaner to losen the cable.
