Am I rich or lean???
I am smelling a weird exhaust smell but the exhaust is well, literally none, the end of the muffler is not black, the engine is running great just smells funny from the exhaust. There is a noticably rumble when idleing down now that it is getting broke in, and I am throwing a code after about five minutes of driveing but it can idle all day and not throw the code, but for some reason I can't pull the number from the ALDL since the swap. If it is rich or lean which way do I turn the distributor to fix this, By the way I dont have a timeing gun or anything so I just guessed when setting it the first time.

Interesting
You say that you only set codes when you are moving and you don't have a speedo right? Is that becasue you don't have your VSS plugged in? I don't ever rememebr you saying that you wired that up. Could you be setting a VSS code?
Sounds like you need some real custom chip work. Why don't you check the mailroom and see of an EPROM burner has been delivered. Then call someone that has the software to use it.
Also get that VSS and Speedo hooked up and we'll go from there. I think we are going to have to Hard wire an ALDL lamp from You're ECM. I'm sure you know someone with a ton of LED's that would work really well there. There are some other stuff that you should do but we'll cover that as it comes up.

easy way to check is to splice some leads to a volt meter and take voltage readings from the o2 sensor. Check around. I think the proper voltage is like .7 - .8 volts but im not anywhere near sure on that. If you are running lean, or ritch for that matter, the only quick 'n easy way to remidy that is to fiddle witht eh fuel pressure regualtor and ajust your fuel pressure. How long have you had this smell? after i fixed some of the issues with my s-10, the exaust smelled funny for a few days as the cat burned all the built up crap off, after that, the exaust was, for the first time in years, oderless.
as for the smell do you run 87 octane because 87 stinks compared to 93 your can smell the difference. Do you have a cat on the car? smells like rotten eggs?? that is the only things I can think of that would make the exhaust smell weird
You could get some of that stuff you put in your gas tank from Jegs to make it smell like cherrys strawberrys and a few others and it does work:lala:
