Tried the ProJection controller for MPFI ECU

WOW!!! is all I can say. Runs very well and pondering selling the Pocket Programmer. Man, wish I could make up my mind... Brabham BT-21 might be the next project.

Have a nice/safe Memorial Day weekend and remember what it is in MEMORY of...

A BRABHAM?
You do have too much money!
I'm not familiar with the BT-21. What class did it race in?

How about a quick run-down of what's different in your aftermarket ECU, versus our ultra-slow ECM?

Our ecm is far from slow. It's faster than you are led to believe but that's only because we have the "slow" ALDL data stream 160 baud rate! The computer is MUCH faster and with the edge card technology, it'll be possible to get realtime information displayed on a laptop. I hope to get more info about it from Bob and Bruce at their little Pow-wow they got going out here in Ohio. Today was a long day for me, 4 hours on the road isn't easy. I hope to get enough information from them about the edge card stuff to hook one up to the 8746. It's been done to the 7747 (similar ecm) and from what I've gathered, it's free source code! Makes you wonder why companies even bothered with the stupid ALDL crap when it's exactly that!
Glad to see one of us has money to spend on aftermarket stuff , because I'm so darn cheap I wouldn't even buy a carb let alone some aftermarket EFI. BTW, if I do ever go to something other than the GM_ecm, it'll be the MegaSquirt DIY efi kits. The kit sells for about what a new replacement GM_ecm sells for and it's SO versitile. I'm just waiting for it to come out with the spark control! Oh yeah, and it comes with injector drivers already built in to power 8 peak and hold injectors or 4 low impedance peak and holds (TBI). Wow, I'm going off on a tangent now. Can you tell I'm excited about all these electronic goodies . Oh yeah, and $300+a crank position sensor+whatever it costs for some C.N.P.'s either from LS1 or the trucks = C.N.P. for ME, hehe, man I wish I had a better job.

Well, it's the ProJection 2D 670cfm 2bbl ECU (system P/N = 502-20 or 502-20S if it's Shiny) for TBI control... The one with the 5 adjustable pots on the front of the box, no spark control, using a nice HEI, 34deg comes in at about 2,600rpm or so, Al E-Tec 200 heads, still. I put a 750cfm carb on it for a day or two and didn't have too much more snot, either... Only a bit more up top, but overall less pull down low/all around. It actually even idles rather mean with the ProJection ECU. Lopey without fear of stalling and right around stoichiometric, which the carb could not do. EFI is good...

The only real problem I have is that even if I "turn down" the ACCEL PUMP function **** 50% (it's max decrease) there is still WAAAAAAAAAAY too much pump shot. Could use a tad bit more fuel on the top, too, but not much... Not a real prob and could cure with FP rise (at 40psi, inreferenced, now) but that makes the ACCEL worse...

I took the ECU box apart and it has an EPROM in it!!! Can i burn my own PROMs for this??? I have a call into Holley's EFI guy to help but he is on vaca until tomorrow. The EPROM has this on it:

M27C256B
-12FI
5880H

9901E
Singapore, ST

I know the Pocket PRogrammer I bought can burn these chips, but I am quite sure Tunercat does not have an EDIT file for the ProJection ECU code... bummer... If Holley cannot help me with it, I am SOL...

In general, runs extremely well and hard, through 5,500rpm with ease. Just if I really punch it, there is WAAAY too much fuel and a slight bog takes place, only to be followed by a nice tire burn. I really am amazed at how well it drives in daily driving, too. So little throtle input is needed (compared to the GM TBI and a carb) that I had to bring the Jeep into the tranny shop to get the line pressure right. VERY little throttle need to drive and cruise on the hgihway. kinda weird, but must be nice. Very efficient combo and with the CL kit installed, great on mileage. Good stuff. I have about 3 extra 2D ProJection ECUs in the basement, too. If I can fix the chip, I'll put the same system on some other vehicles.

And it's just $289 every time they eat the injector drivers. Toss in 3-4 weeks to get it back.

I guess I am still confused in that my understanding is that the drivers actually see LESS load in my present MPFI mode than they do with two TBI injectors in the TBI mode??? Half the load, I believe, so why would the drivers fry???

ie, 2ohms per driver in TBI mode vs 4ohms per driver in MPFI mode??? Half the current draw???

Anyone know how to change the PrJction EPROM???
