Cowl Induction hood

Does anyone know if it is possible to convert the cowl on an 89 firebird with TBI to a working one. The plastic insert in the hood and the close out for the opening is all removeable so I know it should be possible, and if so does anyone know where to get the parts. I like the look of the hood and do not want to put a ram air hood on the car. The cold air from above the hood should be a good intake solution for cold air.

mine came with early thridgen TA parts under the power bulge hood. If you find one in the junkyard, grab the screen and use it where the blockoff plate is. There is also a big spiral looking thing that went into the air cleaner. You don't need that thing, but there is a rain gutter attached to it that you can use with the screen.

the bad thing about our hoods vs. cowl hoods is that the opening is far from the windshield so you don't get the ram air effect that cowl hoods do. Cowl hoods get lots of air into them because there is so much air pressure from where wind hits the windshield. So basicly the Formula hood can be a cold air hood but not a ram air hood.

Tas, I have an 82 TA with the Cowl Hood. Where would I go to check out the "correct" Cowl Hoods for my Car?
