Did pontiac ever make a GTA with a 350 TBI? Even a trans am? i have been looking around and i havent seen anything but TPI's. thanks.

there are trans ams with tbi, i have never seen a gta with tbi, but it is entirely possible. all thirdgens with tbi were LO3's, 305 tbi's.

N0 GTA ever had tbi.

 

No 350TBI ever came in a F-Body.

Base offerings for the GTA was the L98 350TPI engine, but you could get a credit and the LB9 with the manual tranny. Usually automatic GTA's are either fake or warrantied manuals.

 

you may wanna hold that thought. i am not saying for sure that there absolutely were, but it is possible. for a long time people thought there were no tbi formula, trans ams, or irocs. but they were all found.
personally i can't see why anyone woudl spring all teh extra cash for the GTA trim and niceties and not keep the L98, but i have seen so many strangly optioned 3rd gens that i don't doubt any possible option combo anymore.

No, it is not possible. Yea, there were TBI TA's, it was the base motor for a while. Same for the Formula. Same with the Iroc. EVERY GTA (aside of TTA's) are TPI engines, every last one of them.

Although a little off topic,most GTA's were automatics - for example I offer 1988 production figues that show out of 9,765 GTA's built 2,852 were LB9's but only 809 were 5 speed cars.And scince the L98 was an automatic only engine that means the other 2,041 LB9's were automatics for a total of 8,956 automatic 88 GTA's

All the other years show the same production breackdown with the exception of 1989 where 366 LB9's were made as was 366 5 speeds - probrobly due to the fact that in 1989 the L98 with t-tops combo was very common and easy to get/order where as in other years it was near impossible to get t-tops with the L98(impossible to the point where I have never seen or owned one,and I have had over a dozen 87-89 GTA's)

Well the best answer is there shouldn`t be any TBI GTA`s but they are, and I have seen one! In fact it was the first bird that I wanted to buy.

THIS WAS FOR REAL & I`M NOT JOKING I know very well all the firebird`s facts and info, I`m like walking Firebird encyclopedia still growing.

So I was amazed when the seller lifted the hood. I saw TBI.
The car was a black Trans Am GTA from 1991. I have seen the invoice and all papers the car was bought new from the dealer.

This is true! I`m not joking.

To prove the theory that every combo is possible let`s see for example 5,7 liter 3 gen Fbodies with t-tops whereas they should all have hardtops with L98 engine! Or the 1991-1992 Firehawk Formulas should be red and not all of them are! Not to mention the last Firehawk which is Trans am not Formula.

Dude you are full of ****. Everyone already knew from day one that there all Firehawks werent RED and that L98s could be had with ttops , but there were NO TBI GTAs EVER. The all had TPI

Now as you can clearly see there were never any TBI GTA's made,and the one you saw(a 1991)was a fake,as in a T/A that someone made into a GTA or,the other possibility is your not bright enough to tell the difference.

I'm still laughing at "all 91-92 firehawks were red" comment

 

I can describe the vehicle I saw:

It had GTA badging everywhere it should have of course.
it had gold diamond spoke 16" wheels
it had camel tan leather interior.
It had 140 mph speedometer.
It was written on the invoice that it was Trans Am GTA 5,0 liter.
The owner was rather old and I don`t think that he was playing in "swapping the motor" game. In fact in our country it would be very difficult to swap one.


And I`m sure that it was TBI under the hood. I don`t know what do you think but I believe my eyes and I know what I saw. I don`t know what was TBI doing out there but it was TBI.

And I would like to state that I know how GTA looks because a friend of mine has white `88 GTA, with 5,7 TPI / camel interior.
And another friend has `91 red ( used to be pewter metallic -rare color) GTA 5,7 TPI so GTA`s are more common than Formula in Poland. And they`re too heavy to do the job
