Timing Question
Timing Question
Just out of curiousity I am wondering what kind of advance you all are running. The sticker on my hood says my car should run at 0* BTDC. I signed up for the Chiltons Online service and it states 6* BTDC. If I advance mine to 6* will it make a big difference in the way the car runs? Or should I leave it at 0* BTDC since the engine is stock?

I have mine set at 6* advance, which works pretty good with my mods. Throttle response will improve as well as overall power. Key things: run 91 or better octane, gas milage will go down, and make sure your car is not detonating due to too much timing.
I run 2* advance only... dyno showed it ran like a champ there...
I run 94 octane, but am trying out 92 octane in case of price spikes again like last year (I had to run 87 octane dammit with those prices)
On a LO3, the timing marks are perfectly setup... the first valley towards the passenger side is 2* I believe and next over is 4* etc
detonation is bad, but so is pinging...
detonation will sound like a big thump or knock, can't miss it...
pinging on the other hand is hard to catch, but you can hear it best when its doing a gear shift from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd... don't want to run like that either.
I base my stuff off a dyno and track running to figure out what runs best for my car...
