Tell me what to do!

I just bought a 90 Camaro RS 305TBI 5speed maunal.
I slapped an open element on there the other day...
Tell me what some good mods would be...and in the order I should install them. I live in Las Vegas so emissions tests are an issue as well. I guess I'll be keeping the TBI since carburetion isnt an option. I want as much power as possible without a teardown of the lower portion of the engine. Also...I have no idea about the computer chip burning etc.

On a side note....the car seems very strong and smooth in moderate acceleration but with WOT it seems to be boggong down...hell sometimes it bucks in and out. It doesnt do it much when I first start it but after a few minutes of drving it starts with that crap.....any ideas?

Thanks for anyhelp you guys can give me.

Well Id start it off with a good tune up. AC delco plugs, your choice of 8mm wires (I run the Accel ones, they're OK.), new cap/rotor. Change the oil (Mobil 1 tri-syn plug ), get the small stuff outa the way.

Do the ultimate tbi mods (found off the main page in the tech articles area). They're free and help a lot.

Then you'll either want to do a good exhaust (1 5/8" headers, 3" y pipe, 3" cat, 3" cat back) or a posi and gears. Personally I'd do 3.73s with your manual. Its a good gear. I really really want posi/gears, honestly if I had to start from scratch it'd be the first big thing I did.

Then you get into the top end. Do a search for intake manifold or lt1 cam, or vortec heads. That will tell you everything you want to know about heads, cam, and intakes on tbis

Its kinda like a magic trick. All your money disappears and you're not quite sure where it all went

Id recommend the gears and posi first...personally i wish i would have. Plus those will not effect emmissions at all. You can do the ultimate TBI mods, exhaust (edelbrock TES are legal) 3'' high flow cat, hooker catback, edelbrock TBI intake (emmissions legal also), lt1 cam (should pass), hmm thats about it other than heads which may effect your emmissions depending on which ones you get. As long as you retain your catalytic converter you can probably pass unless your car gets out of tune and/or your stock chip makes the car run rich..affecting emmissions.

Sounds like they cover it pretty well already. The TBI mods are close to free and should make a noticable difference. I just wanted to say welcome aboard

Thanks for the welcome and the suggestions.

Im really wondering about the car losing power though. It ran really hard when I got it (1 week ago) and now its like it loses power every day. I installed new plugs and wires a couple days ago hoping that was the problem but its not. My car would spin second gear easily when I got it but it wont now.

Like I stated before....It's like the engine is trying its best but its starved for something. Does adding an open element filter cause the car to run lean or something?

Please help me :hail:

On a side note......
The car is hard to start sometimes too. Not necessarily when it's cold or hot....sometimes it cranks really quick, but most of the time it will rotate quite a bit before starting. Most of the time it will start then go dead immediately 1 or 2 times too. After that it runs fine.

Thanks guys

The open element allows a LOT more air to get in the engine and you may not be providing enough fuel. Change fuel filter and see if it improves. (I must have stock in fuel filters since I keep recommending them lately). If not then you may need to increase fuel pressure slightly to overcome the problem. Stick a quarter in the fuel pressure regulator and see if it helps.
