What Is This....

FORGIVE MY IGNORANCE. I HAVE AN 88T/A WITH A 305TBI. DIRECTLY BEHIND THE A/C COMPRESSOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS A BLACK BOX WITH HOSES ATTACHED TO IT. IT MAKES ALOT OF NOISE. IT RATTLES AND PUTTS ALOT. IT SEEMS TO HAVE AN OPEN HOLE ON THE BOTTOM OF IT WHICH ALLOWS PRESSURE OUT. IF I BLOCK IT WITH MY FINGER IT STOPS MAKING NOISE. WHAT SYSTEM IS THIS ASSOCIATED WITH ..IS THERE ANY REPLAEABLE STUFF UNDER/IN IT. ANYWAY TO KNOW IF ITS OPERATING CORRECTLY...

taht si the box for the A.I.R. lines that lead to the exhuast manifolds. it is a part of teh emissions system for cold starts to get teh cat up to operating temp faster.you can plug it or remove teh pump from the accesary system along with all the othe rtubes without any ill effects.

93.5 inch 6 ribbed belt ... Im pretty sure thats it cause the underdrive pulleys tool like 3 inches off the belt, but removeing the pump added 3. I'm almost positive it went back to the stock size/
