PCV Clog

Hey! I found a problem with my V8 for the first time in over a year! I can work on it!!! Unfortunately, it disturbs me =\

Crankcase gasses are bad. This I know. My PCV air filter within the air cleaner housing has had this problem with getting soaked with oil for a long time.. and it's finally dawned on my dumb brain that all of this crap was *supposed* to be sucked in the other direction via the pcv system! Concept!

So I took apart the front end of the PCV system and.. hmm.. isn't there supposed to be vacuum present at this port?!

Suffice to say 8 paper towels covered in crap from blowing out the vac port with FI throttle body cleaner, the port *still* has no vac.. so I'm forced to make sure here, the PCV vac port is supposed to have vac present at idle, right? Any guys who know the internals of these throttle bodies, how deep does this vac port go? I mean, there's a ton of crap that's come out of there, there's gotta be and end to it sometime =\

Subquestion.. if this port does have vac at idle, obviously I've got a serious issue with my would-be-stock idle that would explain why my car occasionally stalls out at intersections and crap.. I figure the IAC is only willing to compensate so far.. but for general info, what RPM and IAC Stepping do you guys normally idle at?

Guys.. jeez. It's a vac port. Could someone at least confirm that it supplies vac at idle? Go out to your car, start it, pull the pcv valve out of the valve cover real quick, pull the valve out of the tube, and put your finger over the tube. Please?

With the PCV tube off the front of the TBI you should have a massive vacuum leak. If there is none present as you say the passage in the TBI is plugged. The only way to clean it properly is to pull the TBI off and then clean the passage way( it only takes like 5 minutes to pull off the throttle body and then cleaning takes a while. This is not a uncommon problem and can be easily retified with a little time.

Yeah there is suppose to be vacuum. My engine dies as soon as I pull the vacuum tube off.

Oh.. my.. ***..

Well, I've been spraying out and soaking that vac port in TB cleaner for days... and blowing out vast amounts of gunk.. but nothing had me prepared for the final solution. oi.

Friend of mine gave me a spare '88 throttle body today out of a car he picked up that got torched. Not much left on the electronics side (surprisingly the little gromet that holds the injector wires is fine, though, even though the injector connectors were melted.. wtf?), but the casting is fine, so I sat there for a few figuring out the vac system and grabbed a little sprayer straw and measured how deep the port should go.. and then I did the same test on mine.. and the difference in port depth was over an inch! *AFTER* cleaning the thing for days! AHH!!!!. Pushed harder on the straw and ended up with a useless straw containing a core sample of deposits.. so.. a thin metal rod and 20 seconds later, started the motor, it had vac, sprayed out the port excessively.. car's much happier.. I know the crap got sucked in through the motor, but my cat's already toast and my cyls already have similar junk in 'em, so nothing's getting hurt. Just resetting the ECM so it's not working on old idle tables and should be good to go =) Thanks folks.
