Help me with the math. $5 / 10min =?mpg
Lets see if I got this right. New mod (open element), loud exhaust (no muffler), so I took it out and beat the snot out of it for ten minutes to see if it had anymore power now (also because it sounds so nasty whan I open it up), and it burned alot of gas.
I think theres something wrong with your car.
Check for a lose throttle nut.
Our gas gages fall real fast when they are below 1/4. You need to fill it up and check the mpg on your next tank full.
Then we would have a better guess if it was running right.

Sory for being an azz. Did you remove the IAT senser (the thing with the wires hooked to it) from the old air cleaner housing and plug it back in. Did you plug the vacume port on the tbi where you disconected the vac line from the old air cleaner? If you did these things theres probably nothing wrong. Removing your muffler wont hurt your gas milage. Good luck.

If its running bad then it's probably a vacuum leak like Joker said. If its running ok, how many miles are on it and when was the last tune up? You're probably due for one as most 3rd gens are. Just use AC Delco OEM plugs, any decent set of 8mm wires (I like the moroso ones I just put on over my accel ones I used to have), new cap/rotor, new O2 sensor, and new pcv valve.
