passing gear

I have a 305 tbi. It is a auto, and it will go into every gear but passing gear. any ideas what it could be. thanks

I'm assuming that you're refering to just gunning it on the freeway or something and your auto tranny downshifts, but the 305 just doesn't put out that much hp, it's more of an "economy engine" than the 350 tpi.
