another da#m thermostat question?
IIRC, you can take a thermostat and dip in water and it will open up. Is this correct. I am having bad over heating problems. The water pump is working and so is the fan, just wonderin' I could test the t-stat

To test your t-stat you can drop it in a pot of boiling water and it should open up after a few minutes in the pot.
If you are having bad overheating problems there are a number of things to check for.
#1) Is the airdam (located underneath the front spolier) still there.
#2) What is the condition of the coolant?
New, fair , or rusty.
#3) Is the bottom hose going into the waterpump collapsing under temperature while doing higher revs of the engine. (this is a common problem) Replace old hose.
Those are a few things to look for.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for t he reply. The air dam is installed, I will check the bottom hose. The coolant right now consist mainly of water. I am going to check the t-stat and then get the cooling system flushed, and new coolant.
