some questions about engines. need help
ok here is the deal. i have the LO3, and i know i've been here and asked alot of questions about it before. but now it's time i get serios about it. now i am looking to have a good 250-280hp motor. now the way i see it is adding the following mods to the LO3:
headers
cam
heads
3" cat back
and i might need even more work then that to get the 280ish. now, what do you guys think about how much power i would have with that?
headers being the 2 into 1 edelbrock tes headers, cam is an LT1 cam, heads are World Class SR torquer II heads ($420), hooker cat back.
now thats looking to be a good chunk of money right there, i'd say at least $1250. now spending that much money, i was thinking i could even go with the crate gm goodwrench motor for that price and it comes with 249hp. the engine would be alittle more i think they sell for around 1500.
next question is, if i were to go that route.. i would have to change over to carb, so what would i need to switch from tbi to carb?
now thinking back on that price it seems like if i can get almost 250hp from the LO3 with them mods, then it actually is worth it. i dunno.. give me some input on this. what do you guys think? with 3.42 gearing, and all the mods i've said i would get for my LO3.. would i be running in the low 14's do you guys think?ok thanks

I think the best way to go would be to get a 350. You dont have to swap it to carb for it to work, you can keep the tbi its just alot harder to do that than go carb.I am running a 350 tbi and the whole process of switching the chip ,injectors, knock sensor, and esc module, is a little more complicated than swapping to carb if you ask me , and I think I definetly would have more power with a carb. For the carb swap look in the Tech articles.I know you need a fuel pressure regulator , new fuel lines, non computer controlled distributor, carb, manifold, and also you will have to make a custom bracket for your kick down cable. But in the end it s well worth it because you get the raw power and simplicity of a carb no computer BS.Good luck.
heh, im making about 280 hp, and i had to do alot more mods than that to get to 280, i hope my sig shows up, sometimes it doesnt, ...i fyou wanna kno wwhat to do , IM me on aim, Aspiredtwo
and where did you get torker heads for 400 bucks?!?!?
