I just got an 88 Formula with the 305 TBI. I installed the part that goes up in the hood, and the air cleaner lid that connects to it from the 82-84 Trans Ams(i think those are the cars that use it). Anyways, after i installed it i backed out of the garage and the car was ideling very rough and then it died when i put it in drive. I started it up and drove around the block. It still idled a little rough, but it didn't die. Why would this affect the way it runs. It was originally made to only open at WOT, but i have no idea on how to run all those vacuum lines and everything, so it is just being taped open all the time. Is it getting TOO much air? I had a 91 Firebird that had the same exact set up and i had no problems. I had added the formula hood to it. Any ideas on why it died and why its ideling so rough?

Listen for a "whooshing" sound in the engine bay and make sure you didnt accidently unhook a vacum line somewhere.

The new opening and aircleaner alone wont do it, the engine only sucks in as much air as it needs. in fact if you run it without the air cleaner at all you will find that the motor still wants more air and it will be more powerful, but dont do that cuz you can fubar your motor
