Tbi supercharging? Found a kit
Vortech makes a kit for 5.7 tbi trucks form 90-95. What woudl keep us from putting it in our thirdgens? Would it bee hoodclearance? cus maybe i could work around it if that is all. Any ideas suggestions?
Thanks,
Mike

I think someone has done it f I remember right. Some would argue on if the gains were worth it. I would say they were, as everything else was stock and the car was in the 14's if my memory serves correctly. There was a lot of fabbing needed to make it work though, and I'm not sure if it was from that exact kit.

Well, i know that they make a kit for tpi cars that are thirdgens, i wonder if you could use just the bracket from that kit? and then all the rest of the stuff from the truck tbi kit. I figured it had been done before, but i was just interested in the gains, 14 is pretty good for a stock stock car, so i wonder how that woudl change with some betther heads intake and a blower cam? I assume it wouldnt' be legal since the kit is for a truck, even though it is 50 state legal for that truck.

It seems, from what I've seen (having not ever tried myself), a blow through supercharger is better with mpfi. If you were going to supercharge a tbi/carb engine, you're better off with a regular blower (pull through, maybe?). Holley used to make a 144cc TBI supercharger, but I couldn't find it on their website any more, nothing but dead links.

yeah, i agree, but hoodclearance would DEFINITELY be an issue with that setup. I figure if it works on the tbi trucks it would work for our tbi's just fine, however it is only 5psi. Guess a pulley would change that nicely.

holley/wieand still makes a TBI roots blower.
you can also save some coin, and get a standard long nose 144, and then use a 4bbl to tbi adaptor plate. holley tells me you will need to make a custom spacer for the pulley to get it to line up with the serpinetine belt system, but that shouldn't be a big issue.

The bracketry that mounts the supercharger should be the same, whether its in a truck or car.
The hat that mounts on top of the TB is not very tall. I can get a measurement later, if that would help.

You are restricted on airflow with the draw thru system. Once the limit of the TB is reached, the air will begin to heat because of resistance as it is drawn thru.
With the blow thru system, you can stuff as much air in as you like.

Yeah, measurements would be great, i am just doing the rebuild on my engine right now, this makes me feel not so bad about keeping the stock comp ration and stock style pistons (not flat tops), that way i can stuff more air in. If i do do this it woudl definitely be a blow through arrangement, hopefully more of a sleeper look since i won't have the big hole cut out of the hood.
Thanks again,
Mike

This is what I did: I ordered the installation kit, minus the compressor. I ordered the YS trim separately.
These kits come with an auxiliary fueler which goes underneath the TB. This fueler comes with its own controller and is set up for the advertised boost with a stock engine. Once you get into using this on a modified engine, it becomes pretty much useless.
What I am doing is building a fueler with 4 injectors vs 2, and it will be controlled by an extra injector controller by Simple Digital Solutions. I will also incorporate a separate fuel system to feed the fueler and use a MSD BTM.
All of this after I get my combo dialed in N/A.

I paid roughly $4K for everything, including an upgrade to the 10 rib pulley system, and an extra blower pulley. This, at a time when Summit was offering a 10% discount on everything, so I jumped in and got as much stuff as I could!

Isn't there a turbo kit out there for less? Sure wish there was.
