Holley 670 TBI

Hey, I've already done the search, but I cant find what I want, so will this unit realy help? All I'll have before I get it will be headers, carb intake, and a chip. If it wont help there, how bout after a cam and vortec heads?
Also, I saw the units in Jegs and they only had it for up to like '88 cars. How much work would it take to adapt it to a '92?
Thanx,
chris

id hold off on it untill after you swap heads, cam, and intake. It wont be of much use on a stock engine. If you want to see what itll take to put one on, just search again for 'holley 670 tbi'. There have been several recent threads on this.

Its application may call 1988 because of the tps sensor style. All of the holley units use the 1st design tps male/female tps wiring harness. The 2nd design is only cosmeticly different and is only found on the OE Rochester TBI units. It is an simple fix as a male tps connector can be purchase in the aisle of AUTO ZONE in the electrical section. The Holley unit uses the 3 bar and the later oe rochesters use a round male female. Follow your Haynes manual schematics or come back and ask, I did a full write up on it about 3 years ago on a no longer exsisting message board.

Other than that possibility I dont know what it requires other than boring the intake to match, if the intake is not bored and the supplied gasket is used you will get hesitation when you accelerate.

Hay Dimented24x7, What do you think of the Holley TBI? Is it a big gain over OE TBI? Do you think it is better than a carb? Are you running a TBI or carb with adaptor intake? I'm in the process of swapping to a carb now but fuel injection is nice, but the OE TBI sux for making real power. Thanks, Bobby

The TBI isn't what's holding your engine back from making power, it's your engine's exhaust, heads, camshaft, and intake manifold. I believe the actual TBI unit is the least restrictive of all of those components. Just slapping a carb on that engine is not going to give you any more power. You'll probably make the same power and lose gas mileage.

the 670 is a nice upgrade if you have the need for it. It will pretty much adiquatly supply most mild street setups and can as a conservitave estimate feed up to around 300 horsepower. You can get more but it would probably become somewhat of a restiction above that. It flows ~500 cfm @ 1.5 inHg. It fits my 350 quite nicely as i only breifly touch 1.5 inHg of pressure drop through my power band so its a nice match. As for your L03, it would be a poor choice. You just dont have enough motor to be able to stand those two large bores. With a carb it wouldnt be as much of a problem as it has primaries to maintain good velocity at low RPMs. Regardless of what you put on your engine, its not going to make much more power. You need to dump the crappy stock cam, heads, intake manifold, and stock exaust, all of it. Any part of the stock exaust or any part sized to the stock exaust will only maintain the restriction. Once you get a good matched combo along with anything else needed to support it thats set up to at least be leaning toward making power, then you bring in the holley tbi to help feed it. Yes, you will need it once the stock stuff is gone. The stock tbi made all kinds of vacuum at WOT on my engine. It was nowhere near big enough to feed even my anemic smog 350.

Holley commander950 4bbl TBI if you want to stick with TBI and need more than 300 HP.

Steatlh Ram if you have a thousand extra past that or Carb if you want cheap power now.
