Rebuild with 83k?

MY TA has 83k miles on it, it has been very well maintained, tuned up regularly, oil changed every few months, and the car is overall in great shape. After redoing the whole suspension, making the car a lot more stable, I would like to get my engine a bit more powerful...what are some things I could do? I'm not very knowledgeable at this topic, but what can be done internally in the engine to make it run better and stronger. I am not interested in purchasing a new one, i'm willing to spend about $1400...any ideas?

$1400...get a 350 longblock and build off of that. It is pointless to spend all that money to rebuild an engine and not be making any more power and still having the potential, or lack there of, of a 305.

yeah, going to a 350 is goona be the best option.

if you are stuck on keeping the 305, the best money is going to be spent in heads/cam/intake, and get the equipment to do you own chip tuning.
