Hello All,
I am new to this board. I just recently bought me a 1988 Pontiac Trans Am as a summer car. It came equiped with a 305 TBI engine and a 4 speed automatic Tranny. I have pics posted at
http://cybcor.homeip.net/transam.htm
I plan on putting a better stereo in there for sure and also doing a steering wheel swap.

Welcome aboard,
Nice looking car. Looks clean. Have any plans for performance mods in addition to apperence? The L03 and the rest of the drivetrain respond quite nicely to the usual mods.

I am such a newbie when it comes to these engines. My other car is a Ford Tempo which has just been promoted from All year driver to Winter Driver. I know more about that engine then this one here. So this engine is called the L06...cool hehe. I was told its a 5.0L that is doing about 200hp.
What kinda mods can I do to it to squeeze a few extra horses outta it?

Welcome to the boards. I'm fairly new myself but I've already learned alot from these boards. As far as your motor goes, it's an Lo3, not Lo6
And it's rated at 170hp and 255tq stock. There's alot of things you can do to help that lo3 out. First of all, get rid of the restrictive stock exhaust(including the stock exhaust manifolds), convert over to an open-air element with K&N, do a search for the ultimate tbi mods and you will find alot of useful information on all of the above. Also, if you have the means to do so, I'm told that a good set of gears and limited slip really wake these cars up(I'm still saving up for mine) Those are pretty much most of the bolt-ons that you could do to help you out. Have fun and if you have any questions you'll more than likely be able to find your answer right here on these boards. GoodLuck!

I was thinking hedman headers. I was looking at some of the sponsers up above at some ideas of mods however everyone I talk to tells me I have to be careful how I build up this engine as the wrong aproach will actually cause a drop in performance rather then a gain. I wouldn't mind to get it up to 250hp if that is possible...

To attain 250hp you will need to tear into the engine with at least a cam swap (pretty healthy cam at that). For headers I would look into either SLP or Hooker 2055's. Then get a full 3" exhaust all the way back including high-flow cat. Check the Technical Articles section on the front page of this site and look at Ultimate TBI. Those will help out too.
After that stuff is worked out then you can start thinking about cams, intakes, heads and Tuning.
