New shift points for LT1 cam

I put a Lt1 cam into my 1992 LO3 engine. I am going to change the shift points of the 4L60 now with the weights and springs in the governor now. The car has the cam, full duals-no cats, custom chip for the cam, underdrive pullys, 3.42 gears. So what is a good shift point for this combo and what is the max RPM the stock LO3 springs are good for with a LT1 cam?

I would not wind that motor to high with the stock springs. Why not just save some money and shift the tranny maually. That way you can find the best shift point by varying it when you are at the track. A quick dyno run will tell you exactly where you should shift. With the proper springs you can take an LO3 to 6300 rpm if you want.

Ok you think 5000 RPM is a safe place to start? Shifts at 4000 stock. -Rod-

I have the LT-1 cam in my 89 and i let the trans shift at WOT 5,000 prm by itself and it went a 15.4. THEN i shifted it manually at 5,500 and it ran a 15.2. So i dropped 2 tenths for the extra 200 rpm in the powerband. Im too afraid to go any further in the ol' L03.

I would go 5500. However, I would not do that with the stock tach. It is really off and you may be shifting to soon. A lot of LO3 cars will really be at 5500 rpm or so when the tach says 6000+. Use a scantoll to find out how far off your tach is. If you have the stock valve springs I would not go any higher. In fact I would not go over 5k until they are replaced.

theres a possiblility that if your car shifts at 4k @ WOT that you need to adjust your TVD cable

Yea, my "TV" was not adjusted when I first swapped in the engine and trans. I have it adjusted now so it shifts hard at full throttle. Still only getting 4000 RPM out of it. I don't have a tach in the Car(76 Pontiac Ventura). I found out the RPM by using the "Dash" feature in Winaldl. Do you think that is accurate? Thanks for the replies. -Rod-
