TBI problems. crappy idle and now wont start

This problem appeared about 2 months ago when i was driving my '92 Formula 305 TBI. I made a turn and all of a sudden when i pressed the throtle the engine almost died on me so i pressed harder on the throtle and eventually the engine kicked in and it ran kinda normal cept for a high idle in neutral. So the next day i got in my car and it refused to start, it would turn over but no fuel was getting into the engine. The day after that the car started normaly and i've had this happen to me about 3 more times till today when the car started idling really high (like 2.5k rpm) and running extremly rich. ALso whenever i pressed the pedal the engine would bog down and the only way i could get back home was to keep it in D and cruise at about 25 mph. So i got to my driveway took off the cover to the air filter and there was this extremly high hissing sound (not the normal hiss) so i shut the car off and now it wont start again, just turn over. Just wondering what this is. I've done a search and nobody has mentioned the engine bogging when they press the throttle, just a high idle. So i'm wondering what this could be. Its a completly stock engine and i have about 140k on it, and i've never cleaned or had the TBI serviced (just had the o2 sensors replaced). So if any of you guys could advise me what needs to be cleaned or replaced i'd appreciate the help. OH also im a complete idiot when it comes to TBI's or third gens so any pics or would help me a lot =)

well the car started today, and ran like crap, and it was running super rich, so there is fuel getting into the engine... it also felt like it was only running on a few cylinders, so im gonna check the spark plugs when i get time.

The most annoying part of this is i just ordered a wonder bar and was about to put it on and see how it worked then my car quit =)

Holy cow... thats what mine has been doing for a while. Exact same symptoms and the sound from your video is just like what I have been hearing. You may want to check some of the symptoms that I listed on my message board listing and compare them to yours. It might save you some big bucks like I ended up spending.

I have been working on this for about a month and a half. So far I have tracked it down to an electrical short somewhere along the guages fuse.

Good luck...

well speaking of shorts, ever since this started happening to my car the acc fuse kept on blowing for about a week. Then about 2 days ago it blew again and the problem came back. So im guessing it's this short that is causing my injection problems. Any suggestions as to where or what could be shorting out would help.

I wouldn't blame the injectors just yet. Try this... with the car on, get some decent leather gloves (or thick rubber gloves) and pull one of the spark plug wires off of the rotor and put it back on and do it to the next one. If durng the time that the plug wires are disconected the idle of the car does not change, then you can blame the ignition system. To make sure that the short is to blame, disconect the neg bat cable and replace the blown fuses. Then disconect the grey connector on the ign coil that has the fat pink wire. Take one end of the volt meter and touch the pink wire terminal and take the other end and touch a ground like the alternator casing. If you get 0 ohms or a short on the continuity setting then there you go, SHORT CIRCUIT and you can deffinatly count on the fact that it is affecting the ign sys because that wire goes to the ign switch.

Also I found these wiring diagrams on the third gen site that were a lot more detailed than the haynes or chilton manual.

https://www.thirdgen.org/schematics/

I prefer the ones for the 1988 GTA TransAM because they are in pdf and a lot easer to read than the 92 Camaro diagrams that are jpegs and yes the 88 diagrams will be almost exactly what you have on your camaro short of the convenience center and the headlights.

Oh also try this... if there is a short from that pink wire to the ground then pull both the Gauges fuse and Turn B/U fuse and and check for the short again. I'm willing to bet that that is where the problem is.
