tune up questions

How much is a tune up typically on a 305 TBI? I need one pretty bad and i'm wondering how much your's ran for and how much it helped your car. Mine is gettin clsoe to 126K miles and it spits and sputters some, howm uch did it wake your ride up when you gave it a tune up?

Tune up prices will very depending on where you go to. Dealers can be upwards of $600 while a local shop will be much much less. If you have basic hand tools and an afternoon you can accomplish all of this on your won. It is pretty straight forward and you will learn a lot about your car in the meantime.

Esential things to so durning a tune up

Change plugs, wires, cap, rotor, 02 sensor, PCV, and air cleaner.

Others things to check and or to do if they have never been done before in the life of the car are to, check the timing, flush the coolant, change the rear end fluid and tranny fluid (auto cars only).

I would also throw in that you should change or at least check out your fuel filter too.

A bare minimun tune up shoudl consist of replacing the cap, fuel filter (forgot that in my list, thanks Bron) rotor, and plugs. You can use a volt meter to determin if you plugs wires are still good to use. They are a cheap replacment though and provide that added insurance. Unless you go with an open air element, I would stick with a paper filter. It may be a good time to go with an open element if you want to add a few ponies.
