dancing crankshaft

whats up everyone,
i havent been on in a while since i blew the motor in my camaro (305tbi). im not sure exactly what happened, but now that i got the accesories off the motor, you are able to move the crank pulley up and down a good 3/4" by hand!! what could have caused this??
just recently i came upon a pre 87 carbed 305 bored .030" over. i should have it by tommorrow (dont worry, my good friend is giving it to me, so its free). anyway, i got a couple of questions since i started tearing down the engine.
i plan on sticking with the tbi, but im not sure what heads to use. i have a set of 305 tpi heads from the first motor rebuild, the tbi heads which when i bought the car, the guy said he did minor porting(i doubt it), then il be getting the 305 carb heads with the motor.--- so which ones should i use? can i use 87 heads on a pre 87 block if the tpi heads are the best? should i invest in some work on them?
would a 30 over 305 with spruced up heads be grounds for an lt1 cam? i also came upon some 1.6 lunati blue roller rockers in the garage. should i ****** em from my bro and use those with any particular combo? (freebie) i have a tpi cam, and whatever is in the motor which im hoping is aftermarket (any way to find out?)
theres also a holley 4 barrel carb which doesnt look so hot, a carter 4 bbl, and a chrome edelbrock. there are also 2 edelbrock performer intakes----should i consider switching over to the aftermarket carb and intake?or how about even getting an adapter for the tbi on the intake?
i also stumbled upon a holley fule pump and adjustable fuel pressure regulator. so out of all these pretty new parts i have disposal of (oh yeah, nice lunati connecting rods brand new too , just dont have a 350 for em) anyways, any ideas on what i should use to get this thing going again. i am aware that chip tuning would be necessary for some of these but im hoping that i can at least get something running without it.
i would love any input from anyone with some advice on where to go with this, thanks alot

Use the TPI heads and get them checked out and possible machined to accept a larger cam.

Pedning on what you do with the heads I would go for bigger than the LT1 cam. If not there is nothing wrong with the LT1 cam and it is fairly easy to tune. use the fuel pump and use the regulator (or make your own). Pending that they are compatable with your car.

I am not sure about the crank wobble so I would make a new post in the engine board that just deals with that particular problem. I am sure ede and RB will have an answer for you in no time.

I would not waste your time with a .030 305. I would start looking for a 350 core and put your money into that. You will be much happier in the end.

except that the whole point is to put only a little money into it. i wanna work with what i got. i will even try the minor portwork myself just to keep the cost as low as possible.
would i be better off switching to the carb? i would rather get into tuning the tbi myself, or at least come up with a final setup that i can have just one chip burnt.

My guess would be that you snapped the crank in two probably towards the front of the motor if you can move it that much at the pulley.

I don't really know what you should go with, aside from the fact that Shifty is right on you being a lot happier (and might I add, on a money saving note, if you WERE to get new parts, they are gonna be cheaper for a 350) and on top of that, a 350 block can be found perdy dang cheap!

One thing I do know though, I wish I could just 'find' aftermarket parts laying all over the place!!!

Yeah, where are you walking that you stumble across these parts? If you step on any BBC parts, let me know
