Vortecs or something else?

I can get a set of bare vortec with about 18k on them for $125 locally. Is it worth it to slap these on what will be a 383 TBI, and then get the GMPP manifold? Or would i be better off with another set of heads? If so, I will buy these and resell them to cover some cost.

so not worth the effort even for $125? What would be a better head to shoot for, complete vortecs or a different model entirely?

I would buy them. $125 is a great deal even if they are bare. They are just standard heads and fitting them with the right parts won't be that bad. You would have to get valve springs and hardware anyways to match your cam. So you are really only paying for valves. Since they are bare it may be a good time to port them a bit and or have the seats cut for larger lift cams.
