The situation isn't nearly as bad as you think. The Crossfire Intake (CFI) is essentially a TPI intake manifold having straight (but shorter) runners and wet-flow injections from the throttle body instead of at the port. The CFI was developed by the same people at GM that designed the TPI. TPI was an outgrowth from CFI, but they have a lot in common.
Do a search here for Crossfire, because there has been some discussion about them. At least two TGO members have gone into the mid/low 13s in the quarter, after modding the factory intake manifold, on a 350 and 400 respectively.
