Installing non A.I.R. headers, emissions removal question
My brother's '92 RS currently has the Edelbrock Tubular Header system w/ A.I.R. and it's developed a few rust holes over the years. He has a complete Hedman Tubular system that doesn't have the A.I.R. tubes that he wants to install inplace of the current Edelbrock system. What all is involved with removing this stuff and where do we stop? He's not looking to go as far as removing the SMOG pump and such, mainly getting ride of the AIR tubes and cleaning up the engine bay some (looks better & less crap to work around). Thanks!
Well, if you're yanking the air tubes you might as well remove the smog pump. That's easy on a v-belt car. On a serpentine belt car you can look for a tech article on this website on how to do exactly that .
If you only want to yank the bare minimum you can just remove the hoses going back to the diverter valve near the smog pump that diverts it either to the exhaust manifolds, the cat or out through a little muffler to the atmosphere.
