vortec performer or action+plus?

Going for a very streetable build for my daily driver and was wondering if I should go with the edelbrock performer or the weiand action+plus manifold to go with the vortec heads I'm getting? I realize I've been asking a lot of questions along these lines but I'm trying to get all the proper parts picked out the first time to save money and make good power

From my understanding, you have to use the Vortec intake with those heads.

Both of those come in vortec versions.

i would go with the weiand myself but, that depends on what cam your planning on using along with headflow.

So watcha got ?

If it were me, I'd probably get a Performer RPM with that heads/cam combo. I think it'll make more power everywhere than those manifolds, but I'm not all that familiar with the weiand, but it seems like a middle-of-the-road manifold between the performer and rpm. Long story short I'd buy an RPM

I'll keep that in mind, the reason I was looking at the other two was the rated rpm range, I didn't figure I'd be able to hit over 5500. Unless you think that doesn't really matter since an rpm manifold will give just as much power if not more everywhere else? I'm not real sure how I should be looking at this. I wish I had dyno graphs of the same engine switching through a bunch of manifolds, that'd be usefull.

Well, I've never personally run an RPM manifold, but any information I've seen and some comparisons I've seen between different manifolds on the same engine, the Performer RPM tends to make the most power and the most broad curve of power. I really think that'd be your best choice.

Sounds good to me, performer rpm is now at the top of my list. Anyone have any better suggestions? If not I guess I'm just waiting on the money to get everything together.

don't third gens have hood issues with the rpm though (possibly the weiand too it's not real popular except for carb applications).

Maybe i heard wrong but, figured i'd throw it out there in case i'm correct in thinking you will have hood closing problems. Would realy suck to buy a new manifold and find out you now need a new hood and hood paint to make it work hehe.

I think you're forgetting one thing, a lot of folks come to TGO's TBI section that don't have f-bods. I have more clearance straight up, not much but it'll fit and if I'm wrong it won't really matter as I'll be getting a 2" cowl hood in about 2 months. Thanks for being concerned about that issue though.

aaah didn't pay attention to that fact.

that's kool with me f-bods aren't for everyone. Just figured i'd mention that thoug, i'd kick myself if i did that on my camaro and it wouldn't fit .

Ever thought about a weiand stealth intake manifold? A whole buncha carb guys use them and i personally have never heard but, good things about them. Might be something to think about. They market it as a idle to 6800 rpm manifold with a dual plane design.

That was actually my first choice but they don't make a vortec version of that manifold so thats a no go.

I'll 5th or 6th the suggestion for the performer RPM, since you have the room. I'm pretty sure your olds and my monte have about the same hood line. I have an 1" adapter on top of my RPM with a non drop base air cleaner with a 3" filter. The front of the air cleaner just barely rubs the hood , I just slightly "tweaked" the air filter assy and all fits well now. You can avoid this by runnig a drop base, shorter adapter plate, or slightly shorter filter. All you need is bout 1/4" of room.

Well looks like I've got the parts figured out, now I have to decide what to do first. Gears/posi/DS, Heads/Cam/Intake, or cosmetics.

If you currently have tall gears with an open rear end, I'd recommend the gears and posi first. You will feel a HUGE improvement with the gears/posi (SOTP and 60' times), plus they will help you get the most out of the power you'll eventually gain with the heads/cam/intake. Last fall I swapped from a 3:08 open to a 3:73 with Detroit Truetrack posi. Probably the best money I've spent so far. Didn't get to the track after the swap cause it was shut down for the winter, but I'm guessing I shaved a good .3 sec (maybe more) of my 1/4 time.
