i just bought a cable from the website you have linked and it doesnt work with my new new style laptop because i dont have the 9 pin serial connector so i went to radio shack and bought a cable "serial to usb" convertor and i cant get this to work. can any one help!!

 

I went thru the same trouble...
Make sure you got a good adapter, the cheap ones don't work well.. I had to buy one of the 25 dollar ones.
After you install the software and plug in the cable check in your device manager and make sure it is set up right.
Mine for some reason wanted to install it'self on com 20 and I needed 1 thru 4 for it to work.
After you reset the com setting if you need to then it should work fine.
