Newbie in tuning
Hello,
After reading lots of posts dedicated to the TBI, I want to tune my LO3 engine.
I'm a newbie in mechanic, I'm not rich and I'm french...
But I have a beautiful 92 RS.
Ok if i've understood my engine has the 87-95 305 swirl port heads (165 int, 140 exh).
To change heads, I have 3 low cost choices.
- #081 TPI heads
- #093 86-91 L98 heads
- L31 Vortec heads
There are AFR heads but they are too expensive for me...
Vortec heads are interesting, but I need to change the intake manifold or to modify the stock one...
Right?
Concerning the camshaft, installing a LT1 camshaft is really interesting if my car keep her stock heads? But if I put one set of heads listed above I should put a bigger camshaft.
But if I change the heads and the camshaft, should I put a new Eprom, right?

What other if any mods have you done to your car? The exhaust needs upgrading well before you change heads. And most will agree that you need to tune the eprom with a head and cam change.
The Vortecs will need a "Vortec style" intake.
You can use the LT1 cam with the stock heads that came in your car.
