Thinking of getting a 89 RS with TBI

just wandering if there are any problems with this car like the TBI and stuff. My 83 Berlinetta got totalled and saw this in the paper and went to check it out. It ran okay and the body is in great condition. Also how easy is it to make the TBI 305 fast. It has a Dynomax catback, K&N, Computer chip and a few other things i can't remember. Thanks in advance.

There aren't any design problems with it anyway. You still might get some problems just like with any car, but there isn't anything inherently wrong with it. Mine has over 200,000 miles on it. I bought it with about 60,000, and let me tell you, the last 140,000 miles have not been gentle, I drive it the way a sports car is supposed to be driven!. So far the engine has never even had the valve covers removed. The repair work I've had to do has been: 3 alternators, 1 water pump, 1 set of injectors, rebuild tranny (T-5 that previous owner filled with gear oil instead of the recommended ATF), and then just regular maintenace items like brakes, clutch, and oil/filter changes. I've got Edelbrock headers, 3" cat, Flowmaster 3" cat-back, open element air filter with K&N filter, B&M Ripper shifter, Clutch Masters racing clutch, 3 row aluminum radiator, 160* stat, 170* fan switch, modified TBI, JET stage 2 chip, MSD 6A, Accel Supercoil, and a few suspension mods, and I've run a best of 15.4 @ 92 with a lousy launch due to the one-tire-fryer rear end. With a posi I know it'll hit 14's easy.

I love my RS. The only major thing I had to do to it so far was replace the clutch. Click on my first link and you can see what's done to it. near the bottom/middle

If you can afford a TPI car I would get it but I suppose the TBI car is an option if your low on cash. They lots of parts to get in the 14's and are a tuning headache at first, but it can be done. Just TPI does 14's stock with 5speed 305 depending on year and 350auto does too.
