The difference in roller small blocks(Vortec vs. earlier)
I was wandering if anyone knew the difference between the newer Vortec880 blocks and the older roller blocks??? I was reading a tech article where they built off a 1998 Vortec 350 block(880). Is there a difference between these blocks and the other roller blocks GM made from the early 90's on? Or are they the same as the Vortec block? Thanks.

Stronger alloys, slightly different compression ratio, 4-bolt main. I'm sure there are a few others.
Nice to see another B-body wagon guy on here.

You need to drill out two of the timing 1/4" timing cover holes if you plan to use a metal timing cover. Also without the timing ring on crank, the balancer will go in a little too far for belt alignment. Just use the plastic timing cover if you have it.
The cam in L31 is same as LT1 B body. Not a lot of lift. Use an stock LT4 if you can find one, or a F/Y body LT1 cam. It'll run a little better.
