What type of camshafts are the best and how much horsepower do you really gain?Also what what duration adn lift do you need.There is one in summit for a 305 iroc tpi that claims with ads superchip it gained 40 horses.Would it work on the tbi it is about 159.99 and the timing chain is 31.95 but it says you only need the if your over 30,000 miles and mine only has 27,000 Would i have to get the timming chain when i reach 30,000

 

You can change it whenever you want. And 30,000 seems low most people get to that at 100,000 miles.

You have to know what you want out of your car to be able to accurately pick a cam. 305's are quite picky about what you throw at them as far as performance parts are concerned. IF you are looking at high revs then you needs durations if you are looking at low torque then you need lift. It all depends on what you want out of your car. I would go ahead and change you timing chain. It's just a little insurance that can't hurt. ALso with a cam you may want to change your torque converter. But that is anoither post.
