New Best ET II
New Best ET II
Well guys, just got back from the track, and I got good news. The RS got into the 14's -- Not deep, but 14's nonetheless. It went 14.91@92.9 I actually had a 93.2 mph run, but the ET was only 14.93 due to alittle slip off the line - after the 14.91 run I tried bumping the air pressure in the ET Streets up to 28# from 26#. With a decent burnout it would hook great with 26#, but 28# was just a little too much. A friend told me that a tenth wouldn't be worth having a car that sounded like a pulpwood truck to him!!lol He just doesn't know how uncommon it is for such a mildly modded L03 to be running 14's does he?!? But honestly, it does sound terrible with the cut-out open, but hey it got me the 14's, and 3 wingnuts makes it sound good again, pretty sweet trade-off to me!! It will probably be a little while before I run it again, since tommorrow I'm going to start taking the 350 out of the Z28, and when I get in the 383 in, I'll be pretty much concentrated on it until I get it tweaked in. Its been a LONG time since I've been excited by anything that runs in the 14's, but this little car has took me back to a time when doing this was really fun. When I'm at the track with the Z28 racing(competing most of the time), The pressure to do good every pass kinda gets you down sometimes. Playing with thing, basically racing only the clock is really fun. The highlite of the day (besides getting in the 14's) was a couple guys walking over from a beautiful blue 87 IROC 305 TPI car, seeing my exposed TBI unit, grinning at each other, and immediately asking for a friendly race. He said he only had a K&N but I could hear and see the unmistakable Flowmaster look and sound bellowing from the car. He went 14.98@91 and I got a 14.94@ 92.8, but it looked like much more due to my .516 RT to his .706 RT. He came back over and talked a little, and admitted underestimating a TBI RS. He said that he'd never been beat by a TBI car to his knowledge - So chalk up one for the Underdogs!!

Congrats! I'm beginning to wonder what this 305 I have now will run. My 327 ran 13's, 14's would impress me with this engine!
Well Pablo, you're right about these not being L03 heads (the #187 castings). But they're not #081's either. I just couldn't stand not knowing any longer, so popped of the driver's side valve cover this morning, and to my surprise, I read #10159553. I found this head in a block/head casting book I have, but it had no info on them, except that it was used on 87-95 305's, so it IS a 305 I guess. Does any body know what head this is. Could it possibly be a truck head? What was the factory HP rating on 305 TBI trucks?? Did the truck engine get the peanut cam?? This engine was replaced in by a Chevy dealer in 1998. I also found in the book, that in 97-98 they made a Vortec 305, they called it Vortec 5000, and these heads had a casting #12552520,and the book stated they had 1.84"/1.50" valves. I wonder if they would cost around the same as a Vortec 350 head?? hhmmmm - a Vortec headed 305 might be pretty quick, especially since since my bottom end only has 27K miles on it - it would worth it to me buy a set if they're cost was around the same as the Vortec 350 head, and if they flowed comparably. I'm going to research this some more, and let you all know more as I find it out.

new Vortec 305 heads are $750+. I looked into it. The only way you will get them for the 350 Vortec price is to get them off a totaled truck. hey Basset get AOL IM so we can chat.
