Is there a torque converter for 92 RS
Is there a torque converter for 92 RS
I have found some torque converters in a magazine, yet the latest year they are made for is 1991. Whats up with that. Can anyone tell me were I might purchase a converter for a 92. thanks, bigtex
or if ya don't want to spend 700bucks, b&m makes a tork master 2400 stall that will work nicely with the car for about 260. it is a lock up convertor so you'll still have good highway manors.
pi's are great, but a bit pricey for my tastes.

Ok, now, this sparks another question. What did you mean by good highway manners...as I'm sure you can tell I don't know anything about torque conv. What would a new t.c. do for me. I don't have any big mods, but I do have a LT1 cam on the way. thanks for the help. big tex

Any torque converter made for a 91 will definitely fit a 92.

the long and short of torque converters is this. the stall speed is the rpm the engine will be spinning when the convertor allows the tranny to basically catch up in turning speed on the input side. there arre a couple of ways people like to chose convertors, mostly based on where the peak torque of the engine lies. for our cars, i am a big fan of trying to match or be just under the peak torque, since this is at a low rpm it's pretty easy to do.
if the stall speed is too low, especially in a heavy car like ours mostly are, it will pull down on the engine until it gets into the meat of the torque band. if you chose too big a stall speed the car will be past peak toque and since that is what gets the car moving, it will come out kinda soft.
being under stalled a little will usually cost you a little at the big end of the track, being over stalled will usually cost you 60'.
it's not something so critical at the rpm's we are dealing with that it will cost or gain you a ton of time, but the right converter can be worth 1.5 to 2 tenths over on thats just close.
i have been using a 2000 stall for about 3 years now. when i first put it in i knocked about a tenth off. i am installing a 2400-2600 piece now, that should be worth about another tenth.
i think thats most of the info.
