New hood
New hood
My 88 dark red sport coupe just got a huge upgrade this weekend.
My hood was the original flat hood with the clearcoat oxidized all the way through on about 80% of the hood. It looked terribe. It wasdent free, and original so i hung onto it hoping some kind body shop would repaint it with BC/CC for $200 or so, but i could just never get hooked up with that deal.
This weekend I went to a local Thidgen establishment and they hooked meup pretty well. They had an 88 IROC Z28 that was plowed hard in the rear, but had a good front clip. it was dark red. I looked at the hood a week agao and thought aboutit all week.
Well it looks pretty good. it has a few small dings and defintely a grade B paint job but it shines up nicely. Some moron used a grinder in the past to clearance the rear seam so it wouldn't hit the wiper shaft.
That's a little bit of an irreversible problem, but at least the driver side slats are nice and it shines.
My neighbor says it makes the car look 1000 times better. In my thoghts it takes a car that was nice for its low miles and originality but disgraced by it's paint job and really kicks it up a notch. i say it takes it from a grade of 7 out of 10 to a grade of 8.5 out of 10.
You know it just seems to me that an $1800 paint job on a $1900 car is a poor investment unless you want to sleep with your car.
I am not sure, but the hood seems a little taller underhood. That would be nice since I had clearance problems before when i treid a 4" tall element.
I gotta say that the IROC hood is a much more exciting hood stylewise. I never realized how much dip and rise it had near the louvers.
Anyone know where a nice passenger side louver is for real cheap???.

$1800 paint job on a $1900 car makes the car worth over $1900 :-) so it might not be totally a waste.
