what can i do to get more performance out of my holley tb?? questions w/in
i have a holley tb (for now), but all i hear is that it has crappy injectors, and a crappy injector pod.
what can i do specifically to improve the performance of this thing?
i have heard a lot about the 454 injector pod. what is the deal with this?
also, what about the injectors? this spring i want to fine tune my combo, and i think that a lot of it will come from the throttle body. what do you guys think? this is a bone stock tb..i am willing to do whatever i can to get it to where it should be. i also am going to start playing with fuel pressure soon, ao any tips on that would be cool too.
what about injector spacers??
(that is untill snuf's comes out and i chuck the damn thing)
any and ALL suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys,
-brian

I'd say keep it and get a custom PROM for now and perhaps some FP fine tuning. Your combo should give you 300hp!!!
What PROM you running now? and do you have a BIN file for it?
EDIT: oops, saw the Hypertech chip... sorry. I gotta get that BIN file to "look" at it to see if I can help. I believe it is "posted" somewhere. Can anyone help me find it?

yeah all i have is the hypertech chip. i really want a custom chip but they are sooo expensive. maybe one day when i have the money i will get one but not right away.
i think that it is pretty damn close to, if not more than 300hp. it sure as hell feels like it is. who knows though. i might get it dynoed in teh spring but im not sure if i can or not.
why do you ask about teh BIN files? do you have access to chip burning equipment? if you do and know anyone that does it cheap, let me know!! i would be VERY interested in it. thanks man.

I can help you "easily" because our setups are somewhat similar. ie, my PROM should be close to what you need. I just need the BIN file (computer file of the chip's parameters) you are running now so we have a base to start with. that will be the hard part. Also, I would need some info off a scan tool from your ECU to check the generic fuel curve for you. Just moderate changes in the fuel curve and pretty major spark changes make/made HUGE performance changes for me.
edit: I'm assuming you are using the 212/222, .435"/.460" cam that came in the engine, still?

yeah i am using the cam that came with the engine.
what is your setup? i remember talking to you about it before a few times, but i dont remember the specifics of it.
i assume you make your own chips? if you do, what scan tool do you use? i was planning on getting an auto xray pretty soon, so would that give me the info that i need?

My engine is a little different than yours right now and I change it all the time. I just have A LOT of overall experience w/Vortec heads combine with the 212/222 cam. I don't like that cam, by the way, but that's another story.
I have access to the stuff I need and Auto Xray is great for single vehicle use. More important is the BIN computer file of the chip you are nw using. We may not be able to get it. I will have BIG problems without it and will not be able to help you without it as I could cause extreme damage to your engine without a reference point.
In order of importance, you need to:
1) Get the BIN file for your chip, or off the internet
2) Then, get auto-x-ray so we can begin.

ok, so you need a BIN from the chip i am using now..well..right now i have the hypertech thermomaster in the car and i have the stock chip as well. which one would be better to use as the reference?
if you would be willing to help me out, i will gladly mail you whatever chip you want so you can retrieve the BIN. teh car isnt on the road anyways, and wont be for at least another month.
i am currently looking for an auto xray on ebay, and could get one relatively quickly (within a couple weeks).
let me know what you can do, and ill do the same. if you want to, you can email me at z28boy@twcny.rr.com
thanks a lot man, i really appreciate it.

I'm going to have the same setup as z28 boy except with AC and of course no EGR so spark curve needs to be less agressive at higher rpm to prevent detonation with pump gas. I'm getting into chip programming but I don't have the money for the equipment yet. z28 boy, if you do eventually get the bin file could you let me know over e-mail
. When you get the z28 guage cluster swapped in you're going to have to tell us how you like it.
Fastbroker, do you know if there is any programs out that would let you emulate a chip with an actual computer? I'm installing a computer in the car for mp3s (the 40x4 LCD is working) and I'd like to know if there is come kind of real time emulator out there. I think pocket programer has one but I can't find a link. That would let me run a few special chips for stuff like the track, emissions, mpg, and of course a "mustang killer" option
.

Hey there guys. I don't mean to jump on the bandwagon, but I'm having problems with my custom chip. I've got a terrible idle and surging. I got Howell EFI to do it. They have been very helpful when I call, but I think they REALLY screwed my chip up. I took it to the shop to run some tests and apparently it's running in closed loop for only 30seconds after startup, then going into closed loop for 3 minutes and back into open loop for the rest of the time. I would really appreciate it if someone could help me with the best fuel and spark curves for my engine, being that it is pretty close to your setup. I've had this idle problem for about 8 months now and have switched every damn sensor and anything else I could think of until I found out that the chip was wrong. It's always cutting out at stop lights and is really pissing me off. I think I'm gonna go to the 7747 ECM because i have a friend who will help me make a chip, but like I said if someone could help with the fuel and spark I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
