Tbi to lt1 intake and cylinder head ?'s
I was reading the repinning to speed density thread and started a spreadsheet to document as close as possible the amount of $ it would take to go from tbi to tpi, I looked at ebay and I can get lt1 heads and intake for just about the same. This is for a 305 mind you. I was just wondering if repining to speed density then using an lt1 intake and head would pose much more of a problem aside from tuning then if I went tpi? Also does anyone know someone whom makes and sells lt1 convert heads? I am not interested right this moment but my cash flow and "improvements' should be off like herd of turtles with soggy feet here pretty soon.
Thanks much for the help and I hope this is not a redundant thread I searched and all I came up with was lt1 motor swap stuff.

as far as i know you cant put most 350 heads on a 305 because of compression difference and piston size, the valves hit. some will say the heads can fit with some machining but anything you do will be a custom thing not bolt on and go. I believe theres 350 aluminum heads with the same chamber size as a 305 they use them on the zz4 engine, but im not sure were you can get themsome people use vortec heads unsure which ones though, and they make a tbi vortec intake or you can find the 305 tpi heads have them ported and get a better flowing tpi intake, I got the world torquer heads with a bored tbi intake and throttle body and i like it, theres a bunch of things you can do, its up to you

imho the zz4 heads are available in different versions concerning their chamber size. so you gotta watch that, too

Ok to get down to the nitty gritty of your question, YES you can convert LT1 heads to work on your standard small block, and YES they will work fine on a 305. The valves aren't to large and the combustion chambers are small enough. There's a thread on here about building up a set of LT1 heads for a standard small block, it involves getting aluminum welded into 2 of the LT1 coolant passages. Since I'm assuming you still want to stay standard distributor, you'll have to get your LT1 intake converted for it, LT1intake.com is where you need to go, but note you won't need the intake converted to standard head bolt pattern since you're using LT1 heads. I think this combo would be a nice setup for a 305, it would be pretty gutless down low but would make some good power to about 6000rpm. Good luck on whatever you decide to do.

That was the awnser I was looking for. I thought it could be done because in the lt1 head thread there were a few guys running the heads on a 305. I Just wanted a confirmation on whether or not I would need a heavily modified lt1 intake. I should have been more precise. anyway thanks for the help guys. I f get this started soon I will post a thread with pics. I just interivewed for medical biller so I may end up with some serious cash.

Is it really worth the time and effort though when so many heads will bolt up already with equal flow numbers? Or is this because you're going to run an LT1 intake and PCM as well? Because, if you are you may want to consider a full LT1 engine and use a smaller crank found in the Caprice to destroke the engine down in size while bumping power and torque. Seems like it makes it around a 302 IIRC. Can you even buy a new LT/LT4 anymore?

LT1 heads = 150 bucks a pair on eBay, aluminum, welding, decking = maybe 200. If you're using the LT1 intake then the LT1 heads are a VERY logical choice and will make alot of power. It's a bargain basement setup that will run good on a 305.
