Timing questions
Does anybody know how to read the timing notches in terms of degrees? The numbers on mine are corroded away and I'm not sure the Chilton guide is accurate.
Also, is it normal for the idle to fluctuate slightly when you start it after disconnecting the EST bypass?
And is it normal for the SES light to come on after you disconnect the EST bypass?

Not too sure about your question about notches on the timing indicator, but it is normal for the SES light to come on when you disconnect the ESC connector. If you run a scanner while it's disconnected you'd see that it was throwing an ESC error code (not sure on the number).

I took a quick look at my timing marker. If you are standing facing the engine the marker has 4 points, from left to right the first point is 12 degrees advanced, next is 8, next is 4 and next is retard 4 degrees. Zero is the indent between the to 4 degree markers.
Hope this helps.
