Exhaust fell off..... Will this cost me power???

My stock exhaust finally rusted so bad that it fell of... I have a cutout that is open already... If I have no muffler either will that hurt my car's power?

I'm wondering if I may have too little back pressure. Should I cap my cutout?

nah.. it might cost you a little bit on throttle tip in, especially low end, the car wont seem as "snappy". But provided you've enough fuel for the extra airflow (our cars are a little rich at WOT stock anyways) youll probably be faster in the quarter

then again, open exhaust sounds like A$$.. I was driving around with a loose y pipe for awhile and it was nearly completely open. I finally fixed it and I cant believe how much more enjoyable the driving experience is Its loud enough allready WITH the muffler

My RS's muffler looked like swiss cheese. I put a good muffler on it and it takes off better and really is nicer to drive around now.

i ran for 8 months without a muffler. sounded ok because i still had plenty of pipe there. got raspy at wot though.

then my catback pipe fell off. that sounded very very nice, but, was way to loud for me to stand on highway cruising speeds, if all i did was drive in city, i would do it like that. but...

now i have a dynomax, and its nice and quite, thats how i like it for the most part, but plan on getting one of those electric cutouts soon for when i do feel like being loud.

o, and btw, loss of power with the more loss in pipe, lowend power that is, but you dont feel the highend gain, cuz you wont get to where it would be with this engine. and its just too damn loud to WOT without a catback.
