if you want to buy parts that will translate well into a good 350/383 later you will want to look at things like a good set of heads(yes, you can fit 2.02valves in a 305 ), a good intake, a holley tb, more rear gear and such. these are all things that you can unbolt, wipe off, and put into a new combo.
it just depends how many parts you wanna collect on the 305 before building the new motor.

youll need a lot, i think it has about 275 Hp. You are about 80 Hp at least short of him. Get headers and NOS and you should be able to run him.
